Except that it can take up to around 6 months before a cheque/check is
safe from bouncing so you'd be happy with waiting at least 6 months for
something if you paid by cheque/check?

Just because the bank release the funds from one into your account does
not mean a cheque/check has truly cleared, it can be pulled back at any
time especially if it was issued fraudulently or stolen.

A week, tops.
If you are dealing with $30,000 sure, give it more than that.
You can only be so paranoid in life.
I usually ship straight away when getting a check/MO, sometimes even
waiting a week or two to build up a few before going to the bank.
Haven't got burned yet ... Might it yet happen at some point ?
