But they do have a right to say what they want.
I have a right not to listen, and certainly
not to pay to hear them...
That seems like an incredibly practical and
logical approach to not only figures like
Imus or Stern, but to more localized forums
like this or any other usenet forum. I'm
constantly amazed that some participants
on some forums want to suggest that
"everybody just get along" and to
"be careful what you say so as not to offend".
I say nonsense to that. If someone is offensive,
the reader/viewer/listener has every right NOT
to read/view/listen.
No different with music. I can't stand Robert Zimmerman.
So I don't listen to him. I don't say "they should pass
laws that make the Bob's music more appealing to me".
I remember a bumper sticker on all the county owned
vehicles at one place where I lived -
"Let's wipe out hate in Y2K"
It was the slogan of a PC campaign. The county spent
a lot of money to be sure they were hiring the "correct"
number of blacks, hispanics, Asians etc. But they're
not "wiping out hate" at all. They're simply filling
a quota. That might serve only to INCREASE the hate
by those that hate.
I say, let people feel however they feel.
Let them express themselves however they
care to. If I don't like it, I won't listen.
