You are egregiously misinformed about the Salvation Army. They help the
needy unquestioningly without regard to anything but need and they ask
nothing of the needy.

This has been my observation. Salvation Army comes into disaster areas and works tirelessly, giving everything they have. The Red Cross, on the other hand, sets up "stores" where they sell coffee, blankets, etc.
I haven't suggested that they don't do good things, but they do hand
out homilies with the doughnuts and bedding in the shelters. I prefer
to donate items to Goodwill.
Central Florida, where I live, has experienced two tornados in recent
weeks. The death toll is around 20, so far, for the one last night.
The Red Cross was on the site first (with free food and water)in
December, followed by the Salvation Army and several independent
church groups. The SA disaster relief efforts are free of religious
association, but that's not true in the shelters.

I can't tell you how glad I am to hear from you that the Red Cross is giving food and water and not selling it or requiring the signing of IOUs. I know there have been some shakeups and reorganization of the agency, especially since the scandals hit the news.
