You get a similar message on Netscape 4.7. eBay pages rely much more
heavily than ever before on JavaScript, and they send a simpler page
with the message above if they an detect older Netscape. I've got
Firefox 1.0 here, though (no suffix), and everything looks fine. My
wife's machine has whatever the early 2005 version of Firefox is, and
that works right, too. You definitely don't have to use IE, but you
might want to download a newer Firefox.
