I don't get it--how is it her own stupidity to trip over something she wasn't expecting to be there, put there by someone else?

What I'm wondering, though, is what the postman is supposed to do instead if the package won't fit in the box.

If this is a house where the mail slot is in the front door, she should've been expecting to have mail on the floor at some point since it has been there almost every day since she moved in. If there was a package on her front step she should've seen it as she walked up the steps to the front door.

Last week I got a package delivered by UPS. They didn't leave it right in front of the door. They left it off to the side on the porch. It would've fit in the mailbox, but they aren't allowed to put anything in there ... which to me is stupid to not allow a company like UPS or FedEx to not put things in a mailbox.

Perhaps they should change the name from mailbox to parcel box?
