My thoughts for removing the bid: I suppose it's conceivable that
his/her proxy bid is so large that s/he may well end up winning the
auction. Also, heaven forbid, as one of the listed bidders, couldn't he
get my phone number and address from eBay once s/he finds future bids
blocked--resulting in the potential for nuisance calls, etc? If I remove
the bid and block future bids, s/he will be unable to get my contact info
from eBay, right? I think that contact info is only given out to buyers
when they're either the winner of an auction, high bidder, or one of many
bidders. (Sorry, I haven't looked through the Help files to find out
which of my three thoughts may be correct here.)
Well, gosh, that's what we're all here for, right? To save you from RTFM?
It's amazing how some don't think your way <grin>. I'm convinced that many
here in the newsgroups think that CPAs, EAs, and TaxCut or TurboTax are
unnecessary since *all* we need to do is read and understand the Tax Code to
complete our IRS-1040s!
Your thoughts and suggestions? Thanks.
I don't see where you factored in the possibility of an earthquake
destroying eBay's servers so you can't make any changes anyway. Or the
top three bidders actually all being shills for the guy you're worried
about. Or the bidder actually winning the auction but getting run over by
an elderly person speeding along in a 1978 Cadillac and consequently being
unable to pay for the widget.
Oh no, I hadn't thought of those. Another sleepless night is coming. OK, I
get it, I overthink things...
Speaking of eBay's servers, do you remember the good-old-days when eBay
was crashing left and right? I suppose it was hell for snipers then before
eBay instituted their "if we crash just before an auction ends, we'll extend
the auction's close date/time). Ah, the good-old-days, back when most
auctions ended and sellers had to wait 1-2 weeks for a check to arrive in
the mail and Buyers waited weeks for their checks to clear and be able to
expect a package in the mailbox...
