First eBay changed the way thousands of people shop. Now eBay sniping may change things again.
For a moment I thought eBay had added a "scheduled bids" feature.
So what is the generally feeling on whether or not we (as sellers and buyers) would like to see eBay get into the business of officially endorsing sniping, and supporting it with tools?
Obviously the 3rd-party snipe providers will object :-)

A twenty five cent "surebid" service option from eBay would eliminate virtually all of the current sniping problems (user has to be at a certain place at a certain time; OR continuous web access required; OR sensitive info has to be given to a third party; OR multiple conflicting closures; OR real time difference conflicts.)
This would exaclty convert eBay into a second price Vickrey auction which is both directly buyer optimal and indirectly long term seller optimal.
For a quarter extra, eBay holds your secret proxy bid till auction end.
At auction end, the highest bidder wins, paying the LESSER of their proxy bid or the SECOND highest bid plus the current increment.
In the rare instance of a tie, the earliest PLACEMENT with eBay wins.
