Fanuc OM-Mate issues

Client moved in a Toyo-Seki mill about 5 yrs ago that he picked up
somewhere. It has a Fanuc OM-Mate control. He turned off the power and
of course over the last 5 yrs..it lost its parameters. He has been after
me to get it running so after buying the parameters, I punched em in
yesterday and got the machine up and running. He..while a nice guy..is
not the sharpest knife in the drawer..so I had to caution him not to
immediately start running it at 3000 rpm etc etc..and we were running
the spindle at 500 rpm, doing table moves and whatnot for about 30-45
minutes, getting the congealed grease and mang freed up, spraying the
table switches and whatnot, getting everything freed up.
Then he decided to do a tool change. A tool was in the spindle. This
machine was made in 1988, so he and I had to fumble around figuring out
the codes and whatnot. When he did a tool change, tool changer arm came
down and literally knocked the tool out of the spindle..and then stuck
in the down position.
I cant find out any way to do a tool changer reset. Turning it off and
on brings up several codes..one of which is something about a "slug not
being in position" whatever the hell that means. Blink blink.
Anyone have an idea how to retract and reset the tool changer?
