In many areas of the country this is already happening, and the
employers are screaming bloody murder as the quality, motivates
well educated/trained employees they demand at these wages are
staying away in droves.

As part of an area employment training project a few years ago I
conducted a survey/seminar to determine the specific
characteristics, traits, skills, abilities, knowledge, etc. that
our local employers wanted/needed. Everything was going fine
until at the end I raised the question "why would an individual
with these qualifications go to work for what you are wanting to
pay."

As the old adage has it "Oats can be had for all sorts of prices.
You want good clean fresh oats that's one price, but if you are
willing to settle for oats after they pass through the horse they
are considerably cheaper." You want certified 4140 you pay one
price, when you pay for drops, that's what you get. Don't
complain when the drops don't meet 4140 specs.

Well, when it's the only game in town . . . .

Keep in mind that the comfortable wages enjoyed by most of those employed in
the manufacturing sector are the result of the standard of pay set by the
U.S. auto plants. Once that "standard" is re-established others will follow
suit.
