Please read my rants carefully. It sucked to work there. The machine

What sucks is that two or our Haas's keep dropping tools. Our VF-1 and
our Mini-Mill.

But... the control is ok. Once again, two different rants.

Btw, controls are rarely an issue, that is what a good post is for.

Really? It seemed like it was a huge issue for you when the guys on
the shop floor modified your programs and did things like add probing
routines, which in my experience is how it often works in the real
world.

The probing routines were 2-3 pages long with very complex boolean
math with jumps and gotos depending on whether addtional passes are
needed of qualification of the castings. It's not enough to just
capture data and set a few values.

I edited my own program on the shop floor today, Bill. I was using a
100 degree countersink that was worn out and I needed to get the job
finished today. We didn't have a another 100 degree countersink in
that size. It was leaving a burr at the top of the hole so what I did
was use the quick, friendly and easy to use Haas CNC control to cut
and paste the previous drill cycle. I then used the Settting Graph
backplot graphics to find the line numbers of the holes I didn't need
to re-drill
As per usual I found the Haas control to be simple, easy, quick and
very effective to use.

and then the tool fell out and dinged your part... Wait till it drops
a $2000.00 probe.

BTW, I'm looking at a "What's New Summary In NX6 CAM" right now:

"Allows the NC programmer to add on machine probing commands. Supports
selective Renishaw probing cycles for calibration & inspection.
Visualize & simulate the probe movement Provides post processor
support for the available Renishaw cycles"

uhhh, this thread is going off to the left, and now im lost.
But reading this post I do need to comment, most....forget that..ALL... of
the renishaw calibration programs either made by software or hand require
you to calibrate on a known location. Such as a ring gage.
They all require you to know where that location is to calibrate the
probe's ball size and location..
I find that freakishly idiotic, and less than accurate.
The instructions on those things literally say get out an indicator and
find the location, then probe the calibration.
Next we will have to get out the slide rule to setup our calculators.
By simply rotating the probe 180 degrees when it touches off on the
opposite side makes knowing where the location is obsolete.
The routinges that come with hass or macros just need a simple rotation of
180 degrees dumpred in one of the sub macros. then ist's a no brainer, just
eyeball the probe to the center of the hole or boss your going to use and
hit go.
Doesnt hurt to run the probe pickup twice in the macro, one to get close
and one to perfect the calibration.

Just in case anybody out there cares.
