Well, I think the title of your message says it all... "Better
quality"

WTF? WTF is BETTER quality? How can it get any BETTER? What you mean
is ADEQUATE quality versus ADEQUATE quality AND WASTING fucking time
on your customer's buck.

Anyway, I'd do some research on the web and produce a report on why
they're shooting themselves in the head. I've built panel dies for
Honda and Toyota which had machining marks on the class A working
surfaces! Still made a beautiful panel - just didn't cost as much.
This is nothing new and there's lots of material available on such
"lean" design/manufacturing methods.

Ultimately you can't stomp into the management office yelling at them,
same as they can't (or shouldn't) stomp over to your bench and yell at
you for doing a shitty job. If they're bean counters, they will want a
reasonable and level-headed argument presented in a respectful manner
which cites credible sources and (most importantly) shows how much
money they could save.

Let us know how it goes. Automotive has gone through what you're going
through, and as consumers we've all seen the benefit.

Regards,

Robin

Vinny and his employer are mistaking price or cost for value.
Value is what people buy and value is both real and percieved.
