I got some really crappy dowel pins the other day. 416 SST
and they didn't grind them after HT, smaller corner breaks,
not the nice shallow angle on one end that makes them go in
easier and straighter.

I was so pissed if I didn't need them I would have returned
them.

I would think making dowel pins is a highly automated
process. I'd rather pay a dollar more a hundred and have a
quality product that looks better to my customer and easier
for me to use.

I'm tired of the Wal-Mart mentality!

Best,
Steve

A whole $1 more per hundred?
Wow! A whopping 1 penny per part.

Let's see...You could probably grind about 10k parts per day, on one
machine. Pay an $8/hr. operator $64, which leaves $36/day to pay for
the machine, grinding wheels, lights, toilet paper for the operator to
wipe his ass, and whatever else might cost hard cash. At the end of
the day you can pocket.....what......maybe $20??! Oh Boy!

Yeah man, That'd sure make me want to add another operation:-/

This is where the Wal-Mart mentality comes from. Customers want top
quality, but they're only willing to pay an extra penny.

Been there, done that. I chased that penny for 7 years, trying to give
my customer a better product. 1-1.5 million pieces/yr., as a matter of
fact. But it cost me 1/2 cent each to do it. And that 1/2 penny extra
profit did nothing but cause delivery and employee problems.

Was it worth it? NO!

He can get the pin he wants but will have to order "Precision" grade. I am
finishing two projects that needed these in .125 Dia. and a box of 100 was
30.00. It's a $200K job FCS and it's TWO parts. That really isn't all that
important but my time is and I've little interest in being penny wise and
pound foolish. THAT is what Chnese and Indian sources are for.

Homie don't play that.
