You must be a machining newbie then. LMAO!
The cap and the movable end have little "tangs" protruding from them, with drilled cross holes for the curved end of the spring to attach to. You could probably take a peek by stretching the spring loaded end away from the body of the edge finder a "little" bit.
Or you could just put an edge finder in a holder and run it up to 10,000 RPM, you'd no doubt then get to view the internals.
