An interesting discussion with PM was the impetus for this survey.
Do you regularly use flycutters on your vertical or horizontal
machining centers?

Comments:
We skim cut one side 1/4 aluminum bar ranging from 2in to 4in wide and from
34 to 8 in long by appx .015 deep for several of our products ( a consumer
use item where visual appearance as well as flatness is critical )
This is done using the kennametal series mcf-45* shell mills and leaving
all but one station empty. The insert is diamond coated 20 deg primary by
Teledyne #SEKN-42AF4B in grade TDC-21F

Interesting. What kind of difference do you see when you fill all of
the insert stations? Is it a problem with the inserts not being the
same height, or the cutting forces?
