Depending on the machine, and the inertia of the spindle, and the
torque of the spindle motor, it can only start,stop,reverse just so
fast.
No matter how small the tap is.
My Robodrill can tap up to 8,000 rpm.
I don't think a bigger machine could do it that fast, even with the
same control.
So do you tap an #0-80 at the same RPM as a 1/4-20?

The question as I followed the thread was how fast could the Machine
go?
What was the Maximum threading speed.... Not the recomended for any
job.
And That would dependant on the machine, spindle, motor, etc, not the
size of the tap...
IOW, don't program a 8,000 rpm tapping cycle on a 50 taper machine, no
matter how small the tap is.. The machine won't handle it.
