I had a guy that's into model airplanes bring in a few propellers. One
was about 7 inches long and the other two were about 11-12 inches long.
I put a screw in a tool holder and screwed the 7 inch prop down with a
nut & washer, then put it in the machine. The pocket of the part was
about 6" X 4" X 2.6" deep. I positioned the prop over the center of the
part and stared it up slow (had to run the spindle in reverse BTW) to
get the air to push downward. Cranked it up - 4,000, 5,000, 7,000,
9,000, and 10,000 RPM. At 10k RPM that sucker is really making some
noise and if it ever flew off of the holder - by the sound , it could
probably do some real damage. But even with the prop just a couple of
inches over the part it did ZIP, NADA, ZERO for blowing the coolant out
of the pocket, let alone the chips.
So I tried the 11-12" prop. Made ever MORE noise, I was afraid it was
going to lift the Fadal off the floor (just kidding), but it didn't do
any better than the other prop. So I just went back to what I was doing
before - I had a tube and a Tee connector and blew air in one end of the
Tee to create some vacuum to start the coolant flowing in the tube and
let it drain by gravity. Blowing air after the coolant starts flowing
didn't seem to improve the draining any. After most of the coolant is
drained I used a clear plastic *** held a few inches over the part and
just blew the chips and remaining coolant out with the air hose. The
plastic *** was just to keep the debris away from the carousel AND ME.
Sounds like a test for myth busters. LOL


Kinda off the subject a bit, but I seen a guy stick a pressure greaser in
his toolholder, the kind that come with machines to hand grease nipples,
then he could go around like its a drill squirting tap majic into his holes.
Maybe a turkey baster could acheive the opposite results.
