Some good ... some bad You can get a ticket from New York to L.A. at a=========

This is true, but only if the only cost you consider is the
out-of-pocket money for the ticket.
When the other items and hassles, including replacing your
luggage and property after the airline loses it, bagage charges,
food and beverage charges, etc. etc. etc. are included the price
is *MUCH* higher, and the reliability/service [such as holding
passengers in the plane for hours on the ground] is crap.
It is even higher when we remember that it helped put two of our
three major airframe builders our of business [MacDonald-Douglas
& Lockheed] (jumbo civil aircraft was susposed to be America's
secret weapon in the "brave new world order") and put every major
airline into bankruptcy.
When the costs including the loss of retirement benefits
[pensions & medical care] and loss of income and social security
taxes, because of the reduction in employment and pay, and
stiffed creditors/stockholders (how much is your PanAm stock and
accounts receivable worth?), are included, it is clear this was
a huge net loss that generated profits for the very few such as
Frank Lorenzo, and hosed everyone else.
