Has anyone ever broached on a VMC? For example a one inch square with
1/8 radius in the corners in mild steel about 1.00 thick. The machine
has a tool changer and why couldn't the hole be drilled to size then
use 3 of 4 broaches to size the square of even an undersized broach
that you could position in the 4 corners and feed down to generate
the square, the spindle is oriented obviously. Or maybe I'm just
thinking way to far outta the box....any thoughts out there?
Here's my thought: Order a new ballscrew and a new set of spindle
bearings right away. That way you won't have to wait for delivery
when the machine croaks.

You have a point when it comes to new VMCs but older ones already have
the bearings brinelled from crashes so a few new dings just level the
playing field.
