3. As for hourly rate...funny you...pay should always be
comúpenúsaútoúry to what you KNOW! Not the B.S. You think you KNOW.
There's a problem right there. Pay should be commensurate with RESULTS. I
don't give a rip what a guy thinks he knows. I couldn't care less what an
employee does when he's not working. I don't care if he has twenty years
of experience or five. People who get results should be the highest paid.
The most parts in the box at the end of the shift with the least scrap
wins every time.
Not the ones who've been there the longest. Not the ass kissers. Not the
know-it-alls who never seem to actually accomplish anything. Not the guy
who spends 60 hours a week working real hard but only getting done what
others do in 20. Not the guy who has bounced from job to job for twenty
years and still can't make an offset.
Results are what matters. Unfortunately there are too few companies left
that get it. If they got it they would hire a head hunter, offer the
highest pay in the area, and fill the place with people who chew through
the work as fast as it can be brought in.
Put a big assed add in the Sunday paper that you are paying BIG$$/hour
plus profit sharing and bennies. Tell the applicants that the day they
stop producing results is the day that they're fired. Then be true to
your word.
If you really want the best guy, then suck it up and pay him what he's
worth. I just don't get this "pay commensurate with experience" bull***.
Nor the "pay is a big secret" bull***. If you want the best people, pay
them what they are worth. If you want them to apply you need to advertise
the pay. If they lied to get the job, fire them. If they are lazy, fire
them. If they don't get results, fire them. Simple.
What? You're going to find the only sober, bright, hardworking machinist
out there who is totally clueless about what he's worth? Good luck.

I think a low salary and a big chunk of profit sharing would be the way
to go... at least 50 percent .
