I'm looking for a leadscrew,
Specs:
Length: ~1m (40 inches)
lead: ~2cm (1 inch)
This is for moving a mechanism horizontally that weighs ~10kg (20
lbs)
Speed: ~300rpm
Cycles/day: <200
I'd like something that has ~25um (0.001 inch) or less of backlash.
Double (maybe triple) the backlash would be O.K. if it significantly
reduces the price.
If you double your RPM (which is low), you can use a 10mm pitch acme
screw with a split nut. The split nut allows you to adjust out backlash.
Acme screws are available at McMaster in lengths up to 6', both metric
and inch series. You can use standard machineable brass nuts also
available at McMaster to make a split nut.

You can't 'idiot proof' anything....every time you try, they just make
better idiots.
