A former boss working on an old machine that he had told everyone not to rapid the carriage in reverse since it would stick in rapid. He was able to dramatically demonstrate this one day by doing just that and pushing the tailstock back. This then let the 10 foot long 2 foot in diameter rubber roller that was being ground show how much traction it had on the cross slide. No one got hurt, but the boss was a little sheepish for the next few days.
