To All,
Now that the end of the year is in sight, take a minute to reflect back

How has your business faired this year? This includes everyone, not just
shop owners.
(X) Buried to the hilt most of the year
( ) A bit above normal
( ) Average
( ) A bit slow at times but still making money
( ) Significant drop off in sales this year.
Comments:
We are an in house shop of a manufacturer. The company as a whole has
been having an average growth in gross sales of about 30% or more this
year. Some months have been over 70%. We moved to a new facility
this year, without any major hiccups in production.
On top of that, we have at least 4 or 5 major new products that we
have been building inventory for product release, which do not reflect
in sales yet. Each of those new products have anywhere from 5 to 30
different metal parts that we must make 500 to 3000 pcs of each to get
the product released. My personal estimation is that we have more
machine hours logged this year making prototypes and production parts
for new product releases than we have hours logged making established
product lines. But that's just an estimate. We turn in an average of
90,000 completed parts a month, the majority of which are screw
machine parts.
We have a larger engineering team coming up with new ideas than we do
the ability to manufacture them. In fact there are more engineers
employed than shop personnel, though many of them are
electrical/software related. Our website constantly has ads for both
hardware and software engineers.
