Gibs or spindle pre-load?

Gibs on linear ways?

The spindle (& Z axis)?

Cliff is confused. Again. If he had actually spent some time around
machine tools he might know a little something about them beyond what he
can find with google.

So you don't know where the slop is? Or if you have a DC or AC voltage?

It would be interesting to fool with the leveling bolts and see if you can
get the column a bit more square to the table. But junque is junque no
matter how you slice it.

He has deflection of the spindle under light loads IIRC ...

That's twice in a single post Cliff was confused.

Either its gotta be in the spindle or else has sloppy ways.

Pushing sideways on the head with my hand doesn't deflect the spindle, it
deflects the head. I checked the spindle itself, it's ok.

Perhaps you needed to be a bit more clear.

Head to *what*? Where is the other end of your force
& measurement?

BTW, Some machines have a "run in" or "break in" period
after which things should be checked/adjusted IIRC.
