The Law of Inertia
Newton's First Law says that any object made of matter has the property
that it resists accelerations.
Nope. See below. Not a single use of "acceleration".
Cliff:
Cliff, Cliff, Cliff, that's the problem with those that learn
something by "rote" while not understanding the underlying principle -
small inconsequential changes in the wording throw them for a loop.
Your "small inconsequential changes"were again wrong as was your
assumed conclusion. Bad nuns again?
Google "rote"?
ANY movement of an object (either from rest, or a change from constant
velocity), IS automatically an acceleration. Sheesh.
Movement is not acceleration thus "any movement" is not acceleration
either.
Velocity is movement.
Don't you grasp any of this yet? The lint DOES NOT GET to
rewrite Newton nor do you get to stuff lint in his mouth.
The name of this property is inertia -
inertia is the property of matter that causes objects to not "want to"
accelerate.
Anyone interested in animism, Galileo, Aristotle & the nuns or have
a fear of bowling balls wandering about munching on the carpet?
"Want to" was just a figure of speech, you REALLY can't believe anyone
is actually trying to attribute self-determination to inanimate objects,
can you?
You & the nuns keep trying. (Is this an absolute?)
Inertia is a property of matter,
like color, density, etc.
Those are properties related to specific bits of matter, not to
mass.
It's just an analogy, perhaps not the best choice, but it gets the idea
of inertia being a 'property' of matter across.
One can *measure* color, density, etc. They have units too.
Fetch me two pecks of "inertia".
Don't confuse "'property' of matter" with mass <sheesh>.
Since Newton's First Law says "Objects made of matter have inertia.", it
is often called the Law of Inertia.
==================================================================================
"Law of Inertia" is a *phrase*. It does not say "go pick a peck of "inertia"".
It's a descriptive phrase of the principle of inertia.
Which you & your lint cannot define nor describe it seems.
Not to mention your endless confusions about Newton.
And Newton's, first law is one of motion & conservation of momentum
(a vector quantity).
It's already been shown that your understanding of the conservation
laws is flawed and incomplete, since you don't seem to understand that
they only apply to closed or isolated systems.
The lint told you that one? Bad nuns again?
Let me reiterate one other thing you seem to be fuzzy about, inertia is
NOT momentum.
What a relief ....
[
Newton's first law of motion is often stated as
An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in
motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an
unbalanced force.
]
Not a single use of the noise "inertia" therein.
But that is the very DEFINITION of inertia.
The bits about momentum?
So much for my relief.
Please don't tell me after
all this time that you really can't see that?
Are the pecks clear?
BTW, I'll ask you once AGAIN, to please stop crossposting my replies to
other newsgroups that I'm not interested in. What are you trying to do,
impress someone over there with your imagined wit and sagacity? I
notice you only crosspost those posts of yours that you probably think
show you in the best light, but don't crosspost those where you lose
arguing points. You're soooo transparent, Cliff ol' buddy. LOL
You are confused.
