The real pisser is the bossman keeps coming to me and saying there's
just not enough money to give me a promised raise (been years since the
last one).

Long past time to bail out but there keep being hints of changes in the
works that I seem to always fall for.

Need somebody to call asking about how you are as a worker?

Was that a poke?

Nope. Sounds like familiarity has bred a little contempt, is all. If
you wanted an "anonymous" caller to ask about how you were and all
that, like when people ask us about past employees, the person
answering the phone might think you were out looking for a better
situation.
Might not be the best solution, though, now that more light has been
shed.

I'm sure that no one believes this kind of BS but I am one of the top
guys in the USA in my narrow field. Also the only one in the company
who can calculate and troubleshoot conditions for our product. I
recently got us listed as the sole supplier of our product to a 15
billion dollar a year company with about 40 plants worldwide via
"hand'holding" their engineering department through designs.

I'm inclined to believe because your posts aren't salted with "hey
everybody, notice my greatness"

Yea, it sounds like the usual crap but the problem is NOT specifically
whether I am a valued worker or not. Note that this is a small
company(about 20 employees), not a big one.

Sounds more like there's only so much payroll to go around. It's fun
when the ceiling starts bouncing off your head. Or is it the head
bouncing off the ceiling? I'm still working on getting comfortable
with it. My sister tells me things will change once I accept it.
