It is my company policy to wear shorts anytime it gets over 80 degrees
outside. Here in Southern California that happens a lot. For the second
time this month I was denied access to a customers shop because my
uniform includes shorts.
We wear shorts when we feel like it. We contain the chips to the
insides of the machines whenever possible, but it's up to the machinist
what to wear. If you let the stuff inside get on you, be prepared to
take it. Don't blame the other guy. That's our philosophy, and
sometimes it sticks to us. Some guys wear open-toe sandals, too, but
that's more of a designer thing.
