Kind of hard to cut past center, is it not?
LOL .... see prior comments.

Think about it .... set it up your stated way with a .250" TNR
insert ...
try to cut to center .. you'd have to program it to go .250" past
center to get tangent AT the center ... OOPs ... machine thinks + & -
are the same ...

Too funny. So you have some magic that keeps the furthest edge of that
insert from being .250" beyond center? Here's a clue: No matter where
you set your zero point from on the radius, the tip of that insert will
be at -.250" when you face to center. Why is programming a 1" diameter
in order to turn a 1/2" diameter an advantage? If I use constant surface
speed control, how will programming a 1" diameter yield the proper RPM?

There is no good reason to program from the center of the radius when
the math to compensate for the radius is so simple and doesn't require
that the center of the radius be used as the basis for your X and Z
coordinate dimensions.

It's fairly simple to shift the coordinate system for a facing
operation. Just program an incremental G50 by double the TNR amount if
you're worried about the proper SFM while facing. Although I have to say
it's hardly anything to be concerned about.
