Cliff, you are an idiot. For one thing here in the United States we
are having to drill deeper and deeper and off shore to get to our oil.
That cost more in addition to having to use new technology of
horizontal drilling for one example. All this costs more than to
simply import less expensive oil at whatever the price. Your Nanny
government has also done a lot to shut down production in this country
making domestoil more expensive with excessive regulations and taxes
for the government's social engineering projects.
You know on some of the wells in the Middle east they do not even have
pumps. . .just flowing out 36" pipes into tank batteries. We have
never had any wells of that sort in this country.
Cliff, you still don't know the economics of the oil field, and
everytime you write you prove it.

Much more than that to pump it, refine it, and

They were making a profit with about the same costs when it was
$17 per barrel, right?
Note that there are firms that are just oil producers, just refiners,
firms that do both, etc.
We are speaking of those that do production here as they are the
ones getting & setting the per barrel price. Exxon, ......
Assume cost of oil production does not exceed US$ 17 per barrel.
After all, with the neocons we are all just so much more productive
and nobody really needed any bennies or health care anyway and thus
wages can fall ... and profits rise to fund bonuses for CEOs ...
Sell that $17 oil for $75 a barrel .. 75-17= 58 .....
Assume 100% of that oil becomes gasoline (no refining waste or loss)..
$1.79 per gallon of gas is that oil ... at $17 it had been ~ $0.42 ....
Who is making that added $58 per barrel?
75/17 = 4.4 ... did demand quadruple just because of
the neocon menace?
I know .. it's not linearly elastic but ...
