I'm starting a machining course in the Fall, I wanted to get a basic
understanding of the various G and M codes that are used so I
purchased CNC Programming Handbook by Peter Smid. Using it and a free
CNC simulator I've taught myself what the different codes do, and can
write very simple programs. I can normally figure out the start and
end point of arcs along with the I and J parameters, but I'm stuck on

I've figured points for the outside contour, I've checked that with
the simulation program. I can't figure out the points for the inside
pocket. I've tried using the formulas for the chord and tangent of a
circle, but I don't see enough information on the drawing to use
either.
Could someone please look at the drawing and show me what I'm
missing.




First question, and it is unclear without the side view, what features
are raised, and what are sunken.


Sorry added the side view to the image, I labeled the points that I know
and the four points that I can't determine. Thanks for the reply.


Sorry, Schicks,

The point you think you know won't give you good geometry if you use them in programming.
The X.625 you have to the start of the smaller radius should be slightly less if the angled lines are tangent. Same with the X3.125. Your Y coords are different, too. It's not simple addition/ subtraction, but you gotta use the trig...

Thanks, I didn't know that I will go back and try to figure the outside points with trig. Is there enough information given in the drawing to determine the four points on the inside pocket I have listed?
