Okay, I'm doing some stupid little part out of A286. I've turned thisTom, Robb-Jack recommends 350 SFM, .0002-.0004 feed per tooth, and a
before, and while I've never been thrilled, it's been okay. I have a
part in which I have to mill some thin slots - about .062 wide and
3/8" deep. I'm tryign to get a feel on what kind of SFM and feed
rate I should be using. I've been looking at the Handbook, but I
can't quite get a handle on this. I've got a 2 1/2" carbide saw on a
1" arbor. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanx

max of 4 times width for depth of cut. they also recommend climb
milling.
That sounds like way more than I had guessed - right now we're playing with
a 1" dia saw at 500 rpm and 5 ipm. I didn't think to call Robb-Jack (we're
using a RJ saw, in fact).
We were also havign some trouble tapping this. We called Emuge to see what
they recommended, but even their recommended taps and sfms gave us a lot of
breakage. We switched to thread milling (it's only about a 1/2" of thread)
and that seems to be working well.
