It doesn't sound like such is being fully used any more than CNC
is.
As it's not my job to design the dies, I'm not sure what the deal is in
engineering. The die build cycles are so long that practices typically
evolve every one or two die sets. As far as CNC, they don't want to spend
the machine time to drill and tap holes on the CNCs but they machine shop is
very profecient at cutting 3d "working" surfaces.
Evem DROs on manual machines might be a help .... IF you have
good CAD data & prints to begin with.
It's not that the machines are incapable, it's just that they're not being
used for these purposes (yet).
