Worse yet is that you need specialized equipment to change a lot of the
parts these days. The automakers make that equipment prohibitively
expensive.
My wife's car had the service light come on and it started running rough. I
determined that it needed a new mass air sensor. The mass air sensor is an
integral part of the throttle body, so it's not a cheap part to begin with.
Worse yet it turns out that if you change it on your own the car won't run.
You need to hook up a computer to the car and download some data in order
for it to work.
It's not any old Wintel computer either. It's an $18,000.00 "special" that
no dealer is going to lend out. You have to take the car to the dealer.
What a rip-off. And what small repair shop is going to lay out that kind of
money for the proper equipment?
