I'd say drill bits that slip are much worse. The shanks tear and score.
Mush. Taps just spin and heat the chuck. Not very much wear.
As an aside, Guhring drill shanks tend to be harder than ther rest.

The last tap I broke was about four months ago. It was in my electric hand
drill and I was trying to adjust the squarness when the tap was too far in
the hole. I've since become more adept at running the tap squarely. The
"skilled" in "skilled trades."
They virtually never fail on the drill press.
