I too am interested in this topic: My wife makes jewelry and one of the
things that she does is an ancient technique of granulation. This is the
fusing of small (less than 1 mm diameter spheres of electrum: a gold alloy
that is about 22K). It is fused on to a base of electrum. At the point
that the sphere touches the base, it fuses, no solder, very little
deformation of the spheres. She uses many different diameter spheres. She
wants me to design a machine to feed wire and cut it. The snips of wire
will then be mixed with charcoal in a crucible and then heated. The result
should be spheres.
Any suggestions would be welcome. I am not familiar with the machines that
are referenced in this thread.
