Thanks all,
That makes things much clearer. It does seem like from the posts that 12 axi
can be pretty much a standard or defined between machines, any extra axis
seem to be more independent to the manufacture.
Now that I am somewhat in the know about this, I can brag that my, soon to
be completed machine (Bridgeport knee), is actually a 6 axis machine, i.e.
X,Y,Z,A,B,W. Than again, I cannot move the W axis through the controls, so
I might have to drop back to 5 :)
LOL
Not my reasoning for asking, as my initial question was geared towards
learning my new hobby.
Now if I can only find some more local hobbyist who are more experienced
than myself........... I have learned immensely from people here, and local
as well. So much so that I actually am thinking about offering out the
machine to someone more experienced, but might not have access to one. Not
the best machine, but with the updated controls it should run fine. I think
a great learning experience for me, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.
BTW this new project started out as needing a milling table for the drill
press, to a small bench top manual mill to a 2900lb best that was too good
of a deal to pass up.
Thanks again all,
Chris
PS thanks to all who did not slam me on my question as well.
