On wire edm's, U and V are for creating angle in the wire, such as die
draft relief. In this case it is a tertiary axis. I ran a Tornos swiss
turn that was 17 axis. They called them x1 y1 z1 c1, x2 y2 z2 c2, etc.
You are controlling seperate slides, the front gang/comb, rear
gang/comb, headstock z, end working slide, pick-off slide, backworking
slides, all needing to be sychronized. Talk about a nightmare!
