holder plus tool length extension makes up the difference. If you want
to get closer to the part for some really short tool or unorthodox
holder make a fixture or subplate to elevate the work piece.

What I have is a face mill which reaches about 4 inches and i am still
an inch away from my 1 inch plate I am facing. It doesn't make sense to
have to hold the plate off of the flat table. Do you think its a hard
limit holdin it back?


No, that is as close as it should get, you have a tool holder that
could perhaps be called unorthodox. Evidently the tool holder was not made for that cnc.
