that, around the time of his death, little plastic devices, running on
batteries, several millions times smaller than they should be, will be
transmitting data amongst each other, wirelessly, at near-gigabit
rates. Such devices, if accidentally destroyed, perhaps by being
stepped upon by a child, would only incur a modest cost, perhaps that
of an expensive lunch. Such a claim would have been regarded as
utterly ridiculous by many prominent thinkers in the field, let alone
the average Joe, for any of a number of reasons.

But not today. ;)

If someone made a similarly fantastic-but-feasible claim in 2008 for
2058, it might be rejected with the same vigor that prior claims have
been rejected.

What really matters is the truth, and how soon we can get to it.

The key, of course, is being able to seek truth and know what it is,
before it is, but from my experience, most people are not interested
in that.
