Because it's unlikely they've been given as part of a reciprocal
arrangement and are therefore more likely to be genuine and so be
given more weight by Google. That would be my worry, right there.

If you understood PageRank
http://www.seo-gold.com/tutorial/pagerank.html you'd know why one way
links are much better than reciprocal without having to resort to
believing Google gives one way links a boost or penalizes reciprocal
links.
