Actually it can. Example- The way you are acting is like a child. Way stands

"In a way" and "way" aren't substitutes. Try it.
(yes they may mean the same thing, but you can't swap them in an
otherwise identical sentence)

"The way your head has too much air", means something entirely
different than "In a way your head has too much air" :-)

Then of course our way can be used very differently.

About the same way as the Dutch/German weg.

Just not 'much'. "Way too much" would be translated as "much too much"
in both German and Dutch.

You are way out there. This sentence can have several meanings.:-) One the
person who it is said to can be crazy. Two the person isn't very near.:-)

That's literal and figurative, but both mean 'far away'.

Meaning it should have been added into the
Luft. As that is the "way" or interpretation of how he was acting. That
is if I wanted to say that as someone acting like and air head for
translation.
Something like Luftweise Kopf.

course, as German isn't even my 3rd language, but it sounds weird in
the context.

I am getting this from my son, so spelling could be off. He wrote on the
same post it paper. But it has to be added in conjunction to a word. Hey I

The sentence was good without the Weise as it
was zu veiler(meaning lots more than just zu viel).

Best not write German the way it sounds in American - leave that to
voice convos ;-)

Yes, for some. Mostly those probably who hang out with Americans and begin
to speak AmeriDeutsch as we call it.:-)

Those would even understand you if you just spoke English :P

If they would have used Weg instead of Weise, and I would know their
mother tongue was English, then I would probably have realised what
their mistake was.
Other people may think of Weise as 'way' instead of 'manner' though,
in which case they might immediately guess your mother tongue is
English, and that you translated it literally.

Right it all depends. Although weg, to me means away or gone as how it is
used mostly in the area. Ella(my friend's name) was telling Jen her fett was
weg(after the baby). What makes Jen smile the most is when of course the
term "***" (thick), as this is used also when speaking of size. The "g" is
pronounced like a "k" so whenever I get asked about my husband I says he's
weg(vek). Probably why I didn't think of using it as way although it can
mean path.:-)

Or road. Both a physical road as indeed a figurative path.

So see, I am leaning all the time.:-) She is a French and English teacher
also so if we get stuck with that we know where to go.:-) I really admire
people that can speak and know languages like that.

Yes for English and Dutch, obviously, and almost for Portuguese. I
regularly have to think about the spelling of more difficult words,
and often maken mistakes with the article, since Portuguese is (like
German) one of those languages where it matters if an object is
masculine of feminine :\
At least it doesn't have neuter as a third option, nor 4 Falls ;-)

Not that Dutch is that easy, as it has 'de' for both masculine and
feminine, and 'het' for neuter. It's just that I learnt Dutch from "a
very early age", so I don't actually have to think about it. It's a
major pain for the immigrants though.

Example:
the red house - het rode huis
the red chair - de rode stoel

If you think that it only takes to remember that 'huis' is a
'het-word', and 'stoel' is a 'de-word', you're wrong:

a red house - een rood huis
a red chair - een rode stoel

Seemingly entirely irregular, and in school we never learnt any
grammar rules about the difference between 'rood' and 'rode' in
different contexts.
There is a system though, and I did figure it out when I tried to
teach someone else Dutch, but it just takes too much thinking when
speaking, which means that many immigrants and their kids (born here),
even when speaking otherwise perfect accent-less Dutch, still say 'een
rode huis'.

English is.. sooooo easy! ;-)
