I believe that entirely, but why does eating pepper make me feel
hot instead of cool then?
Guess: your nerves for feeling temperature are close to the skins
surface (not much use deep inside your body)
Sure, but Bill says eating peppers cools him, while I feel hot when I
eat them.
But after eating them I can stand being in the sun easier and
generally being mobile in heat is easier - as opposed to sitting in
the shade sipping a cool drink, which makes me perspire like crazy
when I do have to move.
Perspiring is also a good way to lose heat but your body has to learn it.
The reason why people feel bad the first week in a tropical country is
because it takes about a week to get fully adjusted, your body has to
"learn" how to sweat. So in the beginning you might get a very red skin,
and also get skin problems. Taking a warm shower often helps (versus a
cold shower, which closes the skin, and might trap salt, closing the sweat
channels).
Sound plausible, all of it, but I read somewhere quite recently, that
drinking a lot of water is good, because it helps the body to release
heat, and, therefore, to sweat less. Sweating is what the body does as
a last resort to deal with the heat.
I always used to think that sweat would be coming from all the water I
drank, but now that I read this explanation, I think it makes more
sense.
Very bad IMO (and experience) is having a hotel room with an
airco turned to 18C. Inside 18C, outside 35C, that's not a good thing for
your body. And it never gets used to the heat.
My body is quite sensitive to that actually - I get instant cramps
when I walk into an airconditioned area from outside heat. (if the
difference is large enough - 3 degrees won't do it :-) )
Thursday we came back from a hot part of the country (very hot IMO), and
we both complained that it was quite fresh in our house. It was 25C inside
:-) I guess when I go back to the Netherlands for a vacation I need to
bring extra clothes even in the summer :-D
Not this summer! (up till yesterday that is - today is nice - 26
degrees only, and tomorrow will be 24.)
