Does hosting location make difference for search results?

I am about to develop 12 European sites all in different languages.

Our hosting servers are all in London.

I was told the client that every site should be hosted in the country
of its origin for better search results. For example Polish site should
be hosted in Poland, etc.

Does anybody know if the hosting location makes any difference for
search results?
