If you ask me I'd advise not to use Google Sitemaps at all. If I was
you I'd just create a comprehensive HTML Sitemap and not bother with
the xml.
Before trying it out, about a month ago, I was quite happy with my
rankings and all my pages were indexed. Since using the Google Sitemap
I don't think a single new page has been indexed and my website has
slipped in the rankings. I have now removed it from Google and deleted
the xml file and things seem to be getting better again.
I can't be 100% sure that the Google Sitemap was to blame for my
website's bad results but I can assure you that it brings absolutely no
advantage.
We crap bigger than webmasterworld.
