I am a little off because the ice is still not melted on the lake. I'm
craving walleye fillets.

Have you ever fished from under the ice?

I did back in seventies, there is a Europen version of bas (or at least
that's what I think it is) that can be catched this way.

The ice is quite unsafe at this time of year though. We catch walleye and
northern pike mostly. There's brook trout around but they aren't very
receptive to ice fishing methods.

Went out one day last year when it was -52 C ( with the wind chill factored
in ). Didn't catch a thing that day.

We auger holes in the ice and build ice-fishing huts ( like :
www.icefishbigab.com/ ). On the more popular lakes, there's little
communities that sprout up on the lakes. Industrial locals become mobile
canteens, dragging their sledfulls of merchandise up and down the waterways
with their snowmobiles. Hot chocolate and cigarettes are always available.
