There is no problem with using templates.
One word of advice.

Place this either side of your meta tages :

<!-- #BeginEditable "metatitle" -->
<!-- #EndEditable -->

The <!-- #BeginEditable "metatitle" --> above, and the
<!-- #EndEditable -->

This will allow you to alter the meta tags for each page.
