Oh well. Regardless, Yahoo's attempts sucked as did Microsoft's. Guess
we'll find out next month where they all stand. I'd bet that the results
will still be the same.
I liked this bit:-
"In addition, it will take a few more months to determine if Microsoft's
new search technology, introduced just over a year ago, is "improving
the consumer experience,"
why will it take a few more months, we have Microsoft's killer
algorithmic search engine for well over a year, the only thing that
could save it from certain death is the relase of Vista... which still
seems a long way off.
As of yesterday, it's February (2006). Office delayed too. This morning,
Server 2007 was announced to have a delay. Microsoft will be careful with
these search bars in Vista, which could have them sued, not only by
Google. See the following video (please):

Wait I don't get it. it's the same video I thought I'd seen earlier. What
gives? IE4? Huh?
That's when they penetrated using aggression. If you can't beat 'em, just
cheat.
Ummmm, penetrated it or patented it? Roy, to be honest I've always admired
the man for it. If I ran my business as he did his I'd be feared and folks in my
surroundings would shudder in my presence. Does that make it right? NO!
yes, it's embarrassment galore as is the usual course. 'and so?
Yes, but the video leaked out only days ago, I believe.
OH MY! Roy! I've got so much to say. Actually I just deleted yet another
big set of paragraphs of how I feel about this. Really, I did.
'and yet I fear the repercussions.
Bill's got my admiration to a huge extent but then again...So....What can I
say 'cept, I can only play the neutral stance at this point. I love him and
I hate him! Really I DO! That's all I can say!
This prevarication might reflect the growing acceptance of OS as
competition. Perhaps Bill feels it's no longer viable just to wrap and
ship a beta version and let the public test it or him. Also, you have
to wonder, why does he bother at all - like, he needs more money?
I'm thinking that, if he wants to really beat up on OS and keep his
lead, just for the hell of it, he needs to release a fully-tested
version of Vista with features people actually need as opposed to
features his R&D can dream up to justify their salaries, and release
it worldwide simultaneously for a tenner or so. Everyone will buy it
if it's similar enough to former Windows as it'll keep them inside
their comfort zone and there'll be no point counterfeiting it for
financial gain. You'll still get the odd hacker but that can be lived
with.
That'll be the end of my Bill gag - "I got some good new and some bad
news. The good news is, I'm no longer an unpaid beta tester for Bill
Gates. The bad news is, I'm now an unpaid alpha tester for Bill
Gates!". Sigh. I'm going to miss that.
