linksmanager

Does anybody know anything about this. Okay... let's rephrase....
please will you explain to me about this. :-) I know someone knows!
There are a number of sites with whom I established reciprocal links. When
I checked on their sites I could'nt find my link, but when I did a search
"of our sites" I found it, but it was situated on a page starting with
http://linksmanager.com... etc. instead of the site to which I was linking.
So I removed their link from my site, on the basis that it was not an equal
link. However, when I ran the link analysis on Sunday, (I am using one site
as an example) there was that company, shown as a link.
How valuable is/was that as a link? I received an email today saying they
were going to remove my link if I did not replace it. I have heard that the
ideal situation to be in with regard to links is to have more linking to me
than I have linking out. I am very confused.
