301 redirects of part of a site

A question about cross-domain 301 redirects of only part of a web site:

The old site has high rankings. The new site has high rankings. The old
site has different content now (about the company instead of about an
individual location).

Are there any potential dangers in using 301 redirects from all the old
URLs on the old site to send visitors to the equivelent pages on the new
site, while keeping the home page on the old site without a 301 redirect?
