Google Listing

For as long as I can remember I've had a brilliant ranking for my
website at www.thebridesmother.co.uk but about a month ago I just
dropped off the results.
I know that Google was undergoing some sort of a shake up at the time.
I took a good look at the site and made some changes which have taken
me back into the first page rankings again (though I really must get
around to redisigning it for Firefox).
Anyway, it taught me a salutory lesson.
To rely on the internet to promote my shop based on the results of the
search of just one website is a little iffy, to say the least.
I have nightmares every time I make changes to the site just in case it
cocks things up, and as my sales are up by 35% over the same period
last year as a result of having Google on my side, I really want to
give myself as much exposurre as possible.
I have blogs all over the place, links with relevant websites and (like
this) make occasional postings onto newsgroups.
As I said, I want to give myself another level of safety and so knocked
up another website www.motherofthebrideoutfits.co.uk, optimised with
the help of a fantastic tool from Web CEO.
I've submitted the site to the relevant search engines and know that
MSN has it listed (though not yet in the reasonable rankings) but
Google and Yahoo aren't showing the site as being found yet.
Does anyone know how long it takes for these search engines to pick up
on a site and list it?
Currently anyone doing a search for mother of the bride outfits or
anything to do with special occasion fashions will find my first site
in the first couple of results but what about
www.motherofthebrideoutfits.co.uk
Right now, I have the index with all the other links pointing back to
the existing relevant pages on the first site (until I build new ones
on this site) so will this have a detrimental effect on my listing?
Anyone who can give me some sort of idea of what's going on here will
be very welcome to post a reply.
