hi ppl,,
i started following an online tutorial regarding making a web page/learning
to write the code etc,
and i have sorta got the hang of it at a very basic level.. (only started a
few days ago)
now that i have a page made (lame as it is) i would like to know 'how does
one put it onto the www'?
is my isp involved?
at the moment, the url address of my page only points to a folder on my
hdd,,,,??
whats next and 'how to'.
thanks.
Either look up the website of your ISP or phone them and they will give
instructions. Basically, you need an address for the space that they
make available to you on their servers. Get yourself an FTP program like
the free FireFTP which is an extension of the Firefox browser. Once you
have the address and the FTP program, you can upload your pages.
Glossary:
FTP <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Transfer_Protocol>
URL vs FTP <http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/basics.htm>
The home page is mostly called index.html, so if you call your home page
this and load it up to the address you are advised about, you will see
it appear in a browser.
